Our Donor Policy

BuiltWithNOF

Our entire donor policy articulates the principles, actions and beliefs of the African Peoples Action Congress (hereinafter referred to as African PAC or APAC), and ensures that those who support our mission, programs, and services, either through financial or in-kind donations, receive due recognition that is appreciative, appropriate, consistent, and equitable.  Our policy is intended to guide the actions of our members, employees, volunteers, contractors, and authorized representatives with regards to how donor information is collected, retained, and used.

The African PAC will never publish, sell, trade, rent or share donors’ names, e-mail or correspondence addresses, and telephone numbers, without the express permission of donors. For each planned event or program, donors shall be allowed the option to have their names publicly associated with such African PAC promotional, fundraising or other activities, by asking them to explicitly choose the “anonymous” field or button when donating to or sponsoring such event(s).

The confidentiality of donor records shall be given the highest of considerations. We value all donors, volunteers, members, and prospects and take the privacy of their personal or corporate information very seriously.

The African PAC subscribes to the entirety of the Donors Bill of Rights as was originally developed or hereafter amended (with emphasis on APAC), by the American Association of Fund-Raising Counsel (AAFRC), Association of Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), Council for Advancement & Support of Education (CASE), and Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

Donors Bill of Rights

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we the African PAC, declare that all donors have these rights:

  • To be informed of the African PAC mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  • To be informed of the identity of those serving on the African PAC governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  • To have access to the African PAC’s most recent financial statements.
  • To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  • To receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition.
  • To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  • To expect that all relationships with individuals representing African PAC’s interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  • To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the African PAC, or hired solicitors.
  • To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that the African PAC may intend to share.
  • To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful, and forthright answers.
